Have you ever heard about Wai Kru? It is not Teacher Day which is celebrated around the world. You know well, Teacher Day is on 16th January, and it is a holiday. But Wai Kru day is a school day, not a day off. It won’t be the same date like the Teacher Day. It is always held on Thursday whereas Teacher Day can be any day. This is very special and celebrated at the beginning of the year in June. It is a heartfelt ritual where students honor their teachers with flower trays, candles, and traditional bows to express profound respect, gratitude, and acknowledgment of their academic and moral guidance. The purpose of this Wai Kru is not merely to pay deep respect to teachers who pass down vital knowledge but also to build a strong, respectful relationship between the student and the teacher.
Do you know what makes Thai New year very special? Again, don’t get confused, it is not the same New Year that we normally celebrate around the world. Thai New year is called Songkran, and it is the biggest festival for Thai people. Songkran is celebrated every year from April 13th to April 15th. This traditional Thai New year (Songkran) is very special because of joyful nationwide water fights, family reunions, and deep spiritual cleansing. People visit temples to give food to monks and release caged birds or fish. Entire cities turn into festive celebrations with music and dancing. The purpose of this festival is to wash away past misfortunes, show respect to elders, and make merit for good luck in the coming year.
Would you like to experience hidden gem places? If so, you should not forget to visit on your next trip to Thailand: Mae Hong Son, a picturesque province in Northern Thailand, famous for its misty mountains, Shan (Tai Yai) cultural heritage, scenic lakes and tranquil hill tribe villages.
